Chapter 01
Removal is a rigging decision, not a cutting decision
Anyone can put a saw through a trunk. The job is deciding where the weight goes, and that decision is made standing under the tree before any kit comes off the truck.
If there is a clear drop zone and the lean is with you, a tree can come down in one. If there is a roof, a fence, a drive, a neighbour's greenhouse or a service line underneath it, it comes down in sections, roped and lowered, and that is a slower and more expensive day. It is also the only honest answer, and it is why two trees the same size on two different properties are not the same price.

Storm damage, and why the 24/7 line exists
A hung limb is not stable. It is resting on something that was never meant to hold it, and it is going to come down at a time nobody chooses. A split leader is the same story with more weight behind it.
That is a different job from a scheduled one. On a storm call the first pass is making it safe: taking down what is loose, clearing what is blocking access or sitting on a structure, and getting the property back to a state where people can walk around it. The tidy up follows.
The work is fully insured, which on storm jobs matters more than on any other, because the tree is already somewhere it should not be.
Chapter 03
Pruning is for the tree, trimming is for the property
Those two words get used as if they mean the same thing. They do not. Pruning takes weight off a limb that is structurally poor, or removes wood that is dead, diseased or crossing, and it is done for the health of the tree. Trimming shapes a canopy back off a roofline, a drive or a window, and it is done for the property.
Both go wrong the same way, which is a cut in the wrong place. A flush cut takes away the collar the tree seals from, so the wound stays open and the decay you were trying to prevent walks straight in. Bad pruning causes the damage it was booked to avoid, and it takes a few years to show.

Removing a tree and removing its stump are two decisions and two prices, which is worth knowing before you agree to one and are surprised by the other.
Grinding leaves a hole full of chip and sawdust, not soil. That mix is mostly carbon, and grass put straight into it goes yellow and sulks while it breaks down. If you want turf there again, the grindings come out and topsoil goes in.
What happens to the wood
It leaves as firewood or it leaves on the truck. It does not sit in a pile on your lawn for a fortnight killing the grass underneath it.
